In other words, if you want to boost your immune system, well-being, mental and physical health, you should sleep better at night. 

But if you try intermittent fasting – namely that you have to deprive your body of food at certain time intervals, you won’t get enough sleep. The explanation is that – if you go to bed hungry – your body will send signals to your brain, making it think that you are awake and this can lead to insomnia. 

When you try intermittent fasting, your blood sugar level drops, and unfortunately, it can be a factor that wakes you up in the middle of the night, interrupting your sleep. Sudden wake ups in the middle of the night (especially during the rapid eye movement cycle (REM) when your mind is storing information into memory) can negatively affect your health. According to medical experts, people who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to develop stress, anxiety, depression and liver disease.

You’ve suffered from eating disorders

Eating disorders are actually a mental condition that causes unhealthy eating habits. Studies have shown that people who suffer from eating disorders are actually dissatisfied with their bodies or find comfort in food when they are sad. The most common types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, purging disorder and so on. 

However, according to medical experts, people who’ve suffered from eating disorders should never try intermittent fasting. Fasting is not a good idea in this case, as it encourages food restriction and limit eating intervals and it can be a trigger for eating disorders. 

That being said, it’s very important to listen to your body and meet its needs. Your health is the most important thing, so you should take care of it. Of course, it’s crucial to eat healthy foods and follow a balanced diet, full of all the essential nutrients for your body to work properly, but don’t try to lose weight in an unhealthy way, especially if you have had an eating disorder.
