Kabul, Afghanistan
A view from a bullet hole shows the Intercontinental hotel that was attacked by Taliban militants. Twenty-two people were killed in the attack, including 14 foreigners, Afghan officials said. Eleven of the foreigners had been identified as working for an Afghan private airline, Kam Air.

Cloned monkeys Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua are photographed at the non-human primate facility at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The two baby macaque monkeys have become the first primate clones to be produced using the same approach that gave rise to Dolly the sheep, researchers have revealed.
