24 August The first of two multibillion-pound giant aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth was delivered to its new home in Portsmouth. Despite their gigantic cost, the new vertical take-off F35 planes are still some five years from delivery, so the largest ships ever built for the Royal Navy as yet carry no aircraft.
