The Best Illustrations of Steve Bell and His Tremendous Visions
Grenfell Tower
16 June A week after the surprise election result, a terrible fire broke out at Grenfell Tower, a block of council flats in north Kensington. It spread rapidly, causing the death of 71 people in a completely avoidable conflagration. Tenants had long warned of the fire risks brought about by “improvement” work to the block. The Conservative-run Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s treatment of council tenants was not a good advertisement for Tory housing policy. The glad, confident spring morning of David Cameron’s tree logo had transformed into something darker and shabbier.
