Gift-giving at Hanukkah

Gift-giving at Hanukkah had started in the 1920s and the creators of this tradition were European Jews who immigrated to the United States and wanted to share gifts as a sign of gratitude and respect. 

According to Josh Plaut, the head rabbi at the Reform Metropolitan Synagogue in New York City, “Hanukkah is a minor holiday that America has elevated into something much more.”
