Someone thought that ponies are the babies of the horses

A Reddit user thought that ponies were just baby horses, can you believe it? But even though ponies do look like a small horse, they are not actually the same. They are small breeds of horses and baby horses are actually called foals.

Many people used to confuse an adult pony with a young horse, but this is wrong. A pony is a small horse breed that measures less than 14.3 hands at withers.

Did you know that there are over 200 breeds of ponies worldwide and they actually live longer than horses? Moreover, ponies have an impressive memory.

A girl believed that Mount Rushmore was naturally carved

According to Reddit user whimbrel, “this may seem too ridiculous to be true, but I assure you, it is… Until she was in her mid-20s, my sister believed Mount Rushmore was a naturally occurring rock formation. Until somewhere in her teen years, she thought earlier Americans had used Mount Rushmore to select presidents and was very concerned we had ‘used up all the good ones.'”

Mount Rushmore is located Keystone, South Dakota and the sculpture was designed by Gutzon Borglum between 1927 and 1941. You can see there the heads of four Presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln and they were chosen to represent the country.

Someone did not know that narwhals are real creatures

Reddit user 1pptouch said that “I knew what they were, but I thought that they were like a mermaid or a sphinx.”

Many people do not know that these creatures are real because of their tusk and they associate the narwhals with unicorns. The story of the unicorn was made after the tusk of the narwhal and maybe this is the reason why individuals consider them mythical. This long upper tooth reaches an average length of two meters and can weigh up to 10 kilograms. Additionally, it lives in the Arctic waters around Greenland, Canada, and Russia.

Olivia Newton – John, Fig Newton, and Newton’s Laws were part of a big family?!

Well, according to Reddit user 2OQuestions they are a big family, but as you probably all know there is no connection between them.

“Thought Olivia Newton-John, Fig Newtons, and Newton’s Laws were part of some sort of family business. I don’t think I got that completely straightened out until middle school,” said the Reddit user.

We want to clarify this situation, so in the following, we will briefly present the story of each Newton: Olivia Newton-John is a well known Australian singer, actress, dancer and activist, born in 1948. Fig Newtons are biscuits filled with a fig paste and they have nothing to do with the one and only genius of all time: Newton! Isaac Newton was a famous English scientist, alchemist, physicist and more; he is considered one of the most influential scientists because he formulated the laws of motion, among other theories.

‘This Little Piggy’ by Mother Goose is not about pigs going shopping

Probably there are a lot of people who thought that the famous nursery rhyme ‘This Little Piggy’ by Mother Goose is about a group of pigs that go to the supermarket to buy groceries. Well, in reality, the song has a different meaning, though.

According to Reddit user mutedsilver, “The first little piggy guess to market to be sold as meat; the second piggy stays home as breeding stock; the third piggy eats roast beef and other leftovers from the table to fatten him up; the fourth piggy has none, as you usually don’t feed shortly before slaughter; the fifth one didn’t sell, so it makes pig sounds (or cheers ‘Oui!’) all the way home.”

Sistine Chapel is not called the ‘16th Chapel’

“Thought the Sistine Chapel was called the ’16th Chapel’ until I was in my early 20s. I just figured there were at least 15 other chapels that predated the famous 16th one,” said the Reddit user, Hamburbler.

The amazing Sistine Chapel is a masterpiece in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the pope, in Vatican City. Michelangelo also contributed to the fame of this chapel because he helped decorate it. However, this incredible chapel took its name from Pope Sixtus IV, because he restored it between 1477 and 1480.

Lemons and limes are not the same fruit

“I always thought a lemon was ripe and a lime was not a lemon yet,” said Reddit user sombrero.

Well, I guess you are not the only one who believed this, but it is important that you find out it is not actually true. Even though they are one of the most popular citrus worldwide, they are not the same and the most common differences include flavor, form and culinary uses. For instance, lemons are actually sweeter and bigger than limes. As you probably know, limes are bitter and this is the reason why many people use lemons in cake recipes.

Pickles are just cucumbers in vinegar

“I didn’t know pickles were just cucumbers in vinegar until I was 19,” said Reddit user ayala965.

Pickles are my favorite side dish too, and probably no one thinks about their recipe when they eat this specialty… However, the way they are made is not as sophisticated and complex as you probably think. Well, pickles are actually preserved cucumbers in brine; this solution is obtained from vinegar, salt and other ingredients.

Coffee cake is not actually the coffee flavored cake

Reddit user 2OQuestions explained that: “I thought the name was ‘breakfast cake’ because my family had only eaten it at breakfast and I had only had it several times in my life. Whenever I saw it on a menu I avoided it. As a kid, I just made the (reasonable) leap that coffee ice cream tasted like coffee, so coffee cake tasted like coffee. I don’t like the taste of the coffee.”

But in the United States of America coffee cakes means that it can be enjoyed with coffee. Moreover, in some countries, people drink their coffee with a cookie or biscuit next to it. Of course, there are a lot of recipes that help you cook a coffee flavored cake, but in America, they do not actually contain caffeine are usually eaten when coffee is served.
