There are a lot of inventions that conquered the world over time and made our lives easier, but many people do not know the person who created them. So, if you decide to create something new in the future, just make sure you name it after yourself and people won’t forget you.
For example, there are some successful inventions that bear the name of the creator, such as saxophones – that were made by a man with the last name Sax – or jacuzzies – that were created by Candido Jacuzzi.
Well, read on if you want to learn more about these creations!
Jacuzzis
In 1943, Kenneth Jacuzzi moved with his family to California and he developed a severe rheumatic fever that led to rheumatoid arthritis. His father, Candido Jacuzzi wanted to help his son ease the pain, so he created a mechanism that could make the hydrotherapy possible.
Saxophones
I think that we all love the sounds of a saxophone, isn’t it? But did you know that it was invented by a man whose name is actually Sax? Well, Belgian Adolphe Sax was the inventor of this beautiful musical instrument and created it in 1846. Sax created the saxophone because he was looking for a ‘robust lower voice’.
Bowler hats
It all started in 1849s when Edward Coke wanted a special hat for his gamekeepers because they were struggling with the wind or tree branches when riding horses. So, Thomas and William Bowler created for Edward a robust hat that was more efficient for people, namely the Bowler hat.
Pilates
Pilates is a method of practicing physical exercises that focuses on developing a correct posture for an elongated spine that follows its physiological curves and teaches you to breathe properly.
The Pilates method is safe, the risk of injury being very low. If initially the physical exercises may seem simple, once you understand how your breathing works and after a bit of training, you will feel the movement exactly as it should be done, and the exercises will no longer seem trivial.
This form of exercise was invented by Joseph Pilates. He invented this activity as an exercise program for dancers and soldiers because he strongly believed that physical and mental health were closely linked. The results of practicing this discipline showed that he was perfectly correct!
Graham crackers
Graham is a traditional biscuit in America. The graham cracker was invented as part of the Graham diet, and it was aimed at healing people of sin. Graham crackers were invented in the 1800s by a Presbyterian priest named Sylvester Graham.
So, Sylvester Graham created this type of diet to help sinners get rid of the disease that was considered a real scourge of those times: masturbation. He also thought that unhealthy foods and diets are the reason why people sin, so he wanted to save people from it.
Nachos
The story of nachos is very interesting and funny. Ignacio Anaya worked as the maitre d’ at the Victory Club in Piedras Negras, a Mexican town, when he invented the nachos. So, it all started when Ignacio couldn’t find the cook when someone wanted to order some food.
He didn’t want to let his clients leave without eating so he quickly made a dish on the spot with tortilla chips, jalapeno peppers, and cheese. As you probably already know, the name of the dish comes from Ignacio’s nickname, being a shorter pronunciation ‘nacho’.
Cardigans
This beautiful winter clothing appeared in America in the 1800s. Cardigans were invented by people who wanted to support James Brudenell, showing their admiration for him in this way. But individuals didn’t know that the Welsh seventh Earl of Cardigan retired from the Battle of Balaclava in 1854 to survive, leaving his soldiers to die.
Mason jars
Today, we see everywhere mason jars, but they have actually been famous since the 1800s.
John Landis Mason was a specialist in food preservation and he invented these multipurpose jars in 1858. The Ball Corporation licensed the jars of Mason in 1884 and they continue to create them even today.
