The last violin played on the Titanic
One of the saddest stories about Titanic, but memorable at the same time, was the band that played their instruments while the ship was sinking. The band consisted of 8 members and it was led by English musician Wallace Hartley. They played until the end because they knew what was going to happen and they hoped to calm the passengers.
According to CNN, “Hartley’s body was reportedly pulled from the water days after the April 1912 sinking with his violin case still strapped to his back.” However, in 2013, Hartley’s violin was sold for $1.7 million.
