Nowadays, about three in five adults own some form of life insurance, whether it’s individual, group or both, according to the 2018 Insurance Barometer Study conducted by Life Happens and LIMRA.

After all, your body is your most important asset, so it makes sense to insure it just as you insure valuables like your home and car. But what if your biggest asset was your smile? Or your backside?

That’s the strange reality many celebrities face. When a certain part of your body provides the golden touch that brings in literal millions, it sort of makes sense to take out a hefty policy on it in order to maintain a consistent standard of living, should tragedy strike.

So, naturally, some celebs have outrageous insurance policies for their parts that are worth more money than you’ve ever seen.

Fernando Alonso’s Thumbs

Insured for: Up to $13.3 million

Famous folks who sing, dance and act aren’t the only ones who take out envy-inducing insurance policies — double champion Formula One racer Fernando Alonso was once a leader of the crazy insurance pack.

CNN reported that London-based bank Santander insured Alonso’s driving thumbs for $13.3 million at the height of his championship career in 2010.

Alonso has since been competing in other motorsport categories, and earned $33 million in 2018 alone, making him one of the world’s highest-paid athletes, according to Forbes.

Mariah Carey’s Combo Package

Insured for: $70 million

Leave it to TMZ to dig up the dirt on mind-boggling celebrity insurance policies. That’s exactly what they did in 2016 when they reported that during a South American tour, Mariah Carey took out two separate $35-million insurance policies for her voice and legs.

That $70 million total — which doesn’t seem too crazy when you consider Mariah’s empire is worth $300 million and growing — makes this quirky body part insurance far and away the most valuable on this list.

But if you know Mariah, you know she’s not just content to win — she has to dominate just like she does on the Billboard charts — on which she ranks as one of the best-selling female artists in history.

And if the rumors are true, dominate she once did; according to the New York Daily News, Mimi had her picture-perfect gams insured for $1 billion when she put them front-and-center in Gillette’s Legs of a Goddess campaign back in 2006.

Daniel Craig’s Whole Body

Insured for: An estimated $9.5 million

The highest-earning Bond actor in the history of the franchise, Daniel Craig has reportedly signed a deal for 100 million pounds (about $131 million) to appear in the 25th Bond movie, according to The Sun. But he’s earned his Bond paycheck with all the dangerous stunts he’s performed as part of the gig.

Plenty of performers have insured specific body parts, but because jumping three stories down onto a moving bus is a slightly more dangerous stunt than belting an F5 or shaking your booty, Craig figured he’d just go whole hog and insure his entire body. Ashburnham Insurance Services reported that his whole-body policy is valued at about $9.5 million.

Michael Flatley’s Legs

Insured for: Up to $51.8 million

“I’ve wrecked my body with dance,” Michael Flatley told the Daily Mail in 2015. “My hamstrings are ruined, my groin is gone, and I’ve done irreparable damage to two points of my spine.”

Sounds like the Lord of the Dance’s situation is exactly why celebrity performers insure their bodies in the first place — after all, it was only immense physical agony that caused Flatley to retire on top of a $200 million fortune.

Flatley told the Mail that his legs were insured for about $52 million for decades, but the policy amounted to far less at the time of the interview: “It’s a very different sum, but it’s very hard to get anyone to insure these legs,” he lamented.

America Ferrera’s Smile

Insured for: A reported $10 million

When former “Ugly Betty” star America Ferrera became the spokeswomen for Aquafresh White Trays, an at-home teeth-whitening product, the brand took out an insurance policy on her smile on her behalf, insurance firm Lloyd’s of London reported.

“It’s very flattering to have my smile insured,” the actress said, according to Lloyd’s website. “It’s not something that I ever imagined happening.”

Tom Jones’ Chest Hair

Insured for: Rumored at $7 million

Tom Jones’ body hair has more in common with the Yeti than just lusty locks: It’s been something of an urban legend for years.

That is to say, Sir Tom’s chest hair is definitely real, but the debate about whether or not he actually insures his pectoral rug is still up in the air. Dublin-based news program Newstalk traces the story back to 2004, citing its reappearance several times throughout the years.

Reportedly, Lloyd’s was at first skeptical about the request, but later confirmed drafting a plan to protect the chest hair of a “male model” thought to be a cover for Jones.

Though Jones himself denies it, Paul Alan Walls, a consultant at Bridle Insurance, seems to think it’s the real deal; in a 2015 LinkedIn article, he estimated the policy at $7 million.

Heidi Klum’s Legs

Heidi Klum’s famously long legs have graced the runways for top brands including Victoria’s Secret, and her money-making limbs are now financially protected. The supermodel told “Extra” in 2011 that her legs were insured for $2 million.

“I didn’t personally have them insured, but a client of mine did,” she said — and she explained that her legs are actually insured for different amounts.

“Basically, I was in London, and I had to go to this place where they check out your legs,” she said. “They would look at them and I had one scar here from when I fell on a glass, so this [left leg] isn’t as pricey as this [right] one.”

Although she didn’t pay for her own leg insurance, the “America’s Got Talent” judge — who has a net worth of $90 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth — could have easily splurged for the coverage herself.

Holly Madison’s Breasts

Insured for:$1 million

Playboy-star-turned-Vegas-showgirl Holly Madison insured her breasts for $1 million in 2011, ahead of her run as the lead in Las Vegas’ “Peepshow.”

“I’ve heard about people getting body parts insured and I thought, ‘Why not?,’ because if anything happened to my boobs, I’d be out for a few months and I’d probably be out a million dollars,” she told People. “I thought I’d cover my assets.”

The cost to ensure her money-making body parts is just a fraction of Madison’s net worth — she’s worth $16 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Kylie Minogue’s Bum

Insured for: An estimated $3.4 million

Though rumors have long swirled around Hollywood that Jennifer Lopez insured her world-famous posterior to the tune of $27 million, J-Lo herself denied any such thing in 2016 when she appeared on “The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special” with James Corden.

You know who hasn’t denied any butt insurance rumors? Kylie Minogue. After the golden spanks sported in her “Spinning Around” music video made her booty an icon, sources such as Elle and Metro reported that Kylie had her bum insured for 3 million euros, or about $3.4 million.

Troy Polamalu’s Hair

Insured for: $1 million

Former NFL star Troy Polamalu is well-known for his long, flowing black hair. In 2010, the then-Pittsburgh Steeler was a spokesperson for Head and Shoulders, and the shampoo brand insured his hair for $1 million with Lloyd’s of London, ESPN reported.

Polamalu has since retired from the sport and is now the head of player relations of the Alliance of American Football.

Dolly Parton’s … Well, You Can Guess

You guessed it — Dolly has her two prominent Partons insured for about $4.9 million. Though other sources — like HuffPost and People — have pegged the policy of the Queen of Country’s dual 40DDs at about half a million, an assessment from Lloyd’s estimates a much bigger policy. After all, the Queen of Country is famous for joking, “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap!”

The musical icon — who’s worth $500 million — was recently honored as the 2019 MusicCares Person of the Year.

Keith Richards’ Hands

When you’re the lead guitarist of one of the best-selling musical acts of all time, you’ve got to take care of yourself — or at least, take care of one part of yourself.

Keith Richards’ insurance policy seems like a bit of a paradox. For one, Keith Richards isn’t exactly known for taking care of anything on his body — this is a guy who claims to have stayed awake for nine days straight, and who says he once snorted the ashes of his cremated father with a bit of cocaine.

Secondly, it’s long been speculated that Keith Richards is both immortal and indestructible. Nonetheless, the world-famous underwriters at Lloyd’s of London confirm that Richards has insured his hands for $1.6 million.

Singer and beauty mogul Rihanna had her legs insured for $1 million back in 2007.

“Venus Breeze, the Gillette razor, they named me this year’s Celebrity Legs of a Goddess, so along with the title comes an insurance for your legs of a million dollars,” she told The Guardian.

The singer admitted she probably wouldn’t have paid for the insurance herself — even though she could easily afford it with her $260 million fortune.

“I think, ‘Do people really insure their legs for a million dollars?’ If it was my million dollars, I’d probably walk about in pants all day long.”

And though his blue-collar poetry is likely more famed than his gravelly vocals, we’re not sure you can actually insure lyrical writing talent — lots of insurance companies won’t even insure body parts.
