Glasgow
Firefighters battle a blaze at the Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh building for the second time in four years. In May 2014 it was devastated by a huge fire leading to a multi-million pound restoration due to be completed in 2019. It was built in the late 1890s by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, then a junior draughtsman, and is widely considered to be his masterpiece.

Hawaii
An image released by the US Geological Survey from the Kilauea volcano shows the interaction of hot lava with the ocean which creates ‘laze’, a corrosive seawater plume laden with hydrochloric acid and fine volcanic particles that can irritate the skin, eyes and lungs, but that dissipates quickly with distance.

Stockton, California
Inmate William Michael Dalby, 70, sits in the yard of a cellblock which mainly houses prisoners with cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s and dementia.
