Can one purchase these fantastic works of art?
AWESOME!!! Incredible, really!!!
The photo that shows the Air Force installation is not very smart. Can’t believe they would have all those planes that close to each other.
THOSE ARE OLD PLANES …WHAT THEY CALL “MOTHBALLED” . WE HAVE PLENTY MORE THAT ARE READY TO GO IN A MOMENT. BTW I DROVE AROUND THAT AREA ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO, THOSE PLANES ARE NOT AIR WORTHY FOR THE MOST PART. WE’RE SAFE!!!
It’s an aircraft junk yard/ refurbishment facility, very few are airworthy.
The “Boneyard” at Davis–Monthan Air Force Base would be a waste of time to attack. Only a storage facility for out of commission air support aircraft and parts.
None of those planes are flyable. They are moth balled and used for spare parts or as a reserve if needed to be reactivated.
Its a plane graveyard. The planes have been mainly cannibalized and only the outer shell remains.
Thats’s an airplane graveyard
It’s Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson. It’s referred to as “the Boneyard” My son was stationed there several years ago. Those planes are “parked” there for storage. Maybe some are used for parts, but they are no longer in service. It’s just a place to store them. The humidity there is very low so it makes for great storage, with minimal deterioration. There really are a lot more aircraft than is shown in this picture….MANY more. I saw it firsthand…on the ground of course and it was very impressive. They are parked in perfect symmetry, from every direction you see…
So Jim, that is no ordinary Air Force Base-that is the boneyard at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. There is no tactical significance because most of those aircraft are decommissioned permanently or are used for spare parts etc.. It is beneficial for them to keep those aircraft in close proximity because of the limited amount of real estate.
Don’t see The Villages, Florida
Those are decommissioned military aircraft, stored there. Some of them will be disassembled for parts for other aircraft. Not much of a threat, there! They are awesome to look at, though!
I think that photo shows airplanes that are what you might call a”mothball fleet”. As I recall they were largely old airplanes that are stored there…..not likely to be flown in the near future if ever. Am I right?
That’s an airplane graveyard.
