This is a selection of photos which were taken for the Coming of Age Day, a Japanese holiday held every January to celebrate people who have reached 20 – the country’s official age of adulthood. Yokohama, with almost 37,000 people turning 20 in the past year, is holding one of the largest events in the country and you can see the joy on their faces.

From women who are wearing kimonos and wait to cross a road as they leave after attending a coming of age ceremony to ones who are taking selfies, all these photos will give you the information you need.
