Tips To Get The Best Food Photos With Your Smartphone

In an era controlled by social media and smartphones, sharing the right picture is definitely a key to online success. These days, photographing foods isn’t as unusual as it was a few years ago; in fact, it’s a must!

However, one does not simply take a great food photo using a smartphone, so here are a few tips and tricks to get you started.

Use your phone’s lantern to illuminate food while indoors.

We don’t mean using the flash – which, by the way, you should stop doing right now if you’re doing it. When you take a photo indoors or at night, use another phone’s lantern to shed some light on your food. Test different positions until you get the angle right and bam! That’s how you earn more followers!

Take advantage of the bird’s-eye view.

When it comes to food photography, this is the best way of catching every single detail of your meal. Also, a well-focused bird’s-eye view gives more depth and shape to your foods.

Look at your dish closely.

If you see a particularly interesting part of it such as a sauce or a more colorful ingredient, capture it from a 45 degree angle like you see in the photo above. Make sure to tap the focuse rich at the main point of interest. Voila!

Natural light is your best friend.

You probably already heard it when it comes to selfies and the rule is no different for food photos! Using natural light gives you more changes of capturing the bright colors and shapes of your meal. However, do not use direct sunlight, as it will create an overexposure effect that diminishes the colors and details.
