One of the most notable feminists in Hollywood, Brown grad Emma Watson received some harsh criticism after Vanity Fair revealed a quite interesting photo of her:
One of the most offensive critiques was that of the British radio commentator Julia Hartley-Brewer, who tweeted:
“Emma Watson: ‘Feminism, feminism… gender wage gap… why oh why am I not taken seriously… feminism… oh, and here are my t***!’”
And she’s not the only one who said it! Apparently, plenty of people accused Emma of being hypocritical by posing nearly undressed, considering the fact that she is such a passionate self-claimed feminist.
During a recent interview, though, the actress made sure to respond to all of the negative critique she received for her photos:
“It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is about what feminism is,” Watson told Reuters. “Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality. I really don’t know what my t*** have to do with it. It’s very confusing.”
Emma Watson has been a U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador for three years and she initiated the campaign HeForShe, which enourages men to support equality between genders.
