The First Permanent Ice Hotel In The World

Apart from unforgettable scenery, Icehotel 365, located in Swedish Lapland, is full of art, floating beds and sleep at -5C every day of the year. Let’s take a look. Photos by Asaf Kliger

The hotel has 20 normal suites, 11 so-called art suites and 9 deluxe suites, where guests can sleep on beds made of ice.

The ‘Dreamscape’ suite was designed by British architects Alex Haw and Aditya Bhatt; they were also the ones who built it.

The hotel features staircases made of pure ice that leads visitors from the entrance to the ‘floating’ frozen bed.

Over 40 designers, artists and architects from 9 countries gathered to work on the hotel. The artwork in the photo, named ‘Once Upon a Time,’ was designed by artists Luc Voisin and Mathieu Brison.

During winter, the hotel is completely covered in ice on the outside. In order to keep it cool during summer, there is used solar power.

This artsy suite, designed by John Bark and Charli Kasselback, is inspired by typography. The bed is surrounded by giant letters and numbers made of pure ice. The artwork is named ‘You Are My Type.’

The ‘Dancers In The Dark’ suite, created by Tjasa Gusfors and Patrick Dallard, features two big ice sculpures of dancers.

Visitors can sit on fur while enjoying wall art pieces such as this one, created by Kestutis Musteikis and Vytautas Musteikis.

This is the deluxe suite entitled ‘Don’t get lost’ by Tommy Alatalo. Icehotel 365 is located right next to Ice Hotel, which melts as soon as the spring season starts. The construction of these properties required 30,000 litres of water (which is the equivalent of 700 million snowballs).

Here is another art piece of the ‘Don’t get lost’ deluxe suit. A three-day break at Icehotel 365 includes flight tickets, staying at one of the Art Suites for one night and ‘warm’ accomodation for the other two nights costs about $1,300.
